Paraíba ends 2024 with a positive balance of 27.6 thousand formal jobs

Paraíba closed 2024 with a stock of active formal jobs totaling 514.9 thousand in December, a variation of 5.67% compared to the stock of the previous year, when 487.3 thousand were counted. The data are from Novo Caged and were released this Thursday, January 30, by Minister Luiz Marinho (Labor and Employment).

As is typical in December, the state's balance showed a reduction of 886 job openings, a relative variation of -0.17%. Year-to-date, the balance recorded 27,614 new jobs.

Throughout the year, among the five major groups in the economy, the Services sector was the one that employed the most people in Paraíba: 13,910 formal jobs were created, which increased the number of jobs to 230,845. Within the group, the activity of “Information, communication and financial, real estate, professional and administrative activities” accumulated the most jobs, with a total of 111,821 jobs. In another group, the “Administrative Activities and Complementary Services” sector also showed significant growth, with a total of 77,779 formal jobs.

The Commerce sector ended the year with 130,358 new jobs in the area of ​​automotive vehicle and motorcycle repair. Retail trade also showed good results, with 89,582 formal jobs in Paraíba.

GENDER, AGE AND EDUCATION — In the state, the year-to-date figures show 17,277 formal jobs filled by men and 10,337 by women. In terms of age group, the group most favored in 2024 were young people aged between 18 and 24: 20,857 new jobs. Taking the level of education of employed people as a reference, workers with a high school diploma had a greater presence in job creation, filling 23,434 jobs with formal employment contracts.

NATIONAL — In the country, the balance of formal jobs in 2024 (January to December) grew by 16.5% compared to that recorded in 2023. According to Novo Caged, in 2024, 1,693,673 jobs were created, compared to 1,454,124 in the previous year. December closed with a reduction of 535,547 vacancies — a relative variation of -1.12%. Since January 2023, 3.14 million jobs have been created in the country, with the stock, that is, the number of people working with a formal contract in the country, totaling 47.21 million in December, a variation of 3.7% compared to the stock of the previous year, when there were 45.51 million.

ACCUMULATED — All five major groups of economic activities recorded positive balances, with the best results in the Services sector, which generated 929,002 jobs (+4.20%) and Commerce, which generated 336,110 jobs (+3.28%). Industry generated 306,889 jobs in the year (+3.56%), driven by the good generation of jobs in the manufacturing industry (+282,488). Civil Construction was responsible for the generation of 110,921 new jobs (+4.04%) and Agriculture, for 10,808 jobs in the year (+0.61%).

STATES — The positive result was recorded in all 27 federative units, with emphasis on São Paulo (+459.3 thousand); Rio de Janeiro (+145.2 thousand) and Minas Gerais (+139.5 thousand). In relative terms, in December, the federative units with the greatest variation in relation to the stock of the previous month were Amapá (+10.07%), Roraima (+8.14%); Amazonas (+7.11%) and Rio Grande do Norte (+6.83%).

  • REGIONS — Job creation was still positive in the five Brazilian regions, with the Southeast generating 779,170 jobs (+3.35%), followed by the Northeast (+4.34%) and the South — with the recovery of Rio Grande do Sul, after the occurrence of climate disasters at the beginning of the year —, which generated 297,955 jobs (+3.58%), ranking third among the regions. The Central-West generated 137,327 jobs (+3.38%) and the North, 115,051 jobs (+5.07%).

  • GENDER — In the year, the balance was positive for women (+898,680) and men (+794,993), and was also positive for brown people (+1,929,771), white people (+908,732), black people (+373,501) and yellow people (+13,271), however it was negative for indigenous people (-1,502).

  • REAL AVERAGE WAGE — In December, the real average admission salary was R$2,162.22, an increase of R$33.41 (+1.57%) compared to the value for the same period in 2023, which was R$2,128.90. In the year, the real average admission salary was R$2,177.96, an increase of R$55.02 (+2.59%) compared to the value for the same period in 2023 (R$2,122.94).

  • DECEMBER DECLINE — With the usual decline in the number of jobs in the month, all states of the Federation showed negative balances, with the greatest impact in São Paulo (-190.5 thousand), Minas Gerais (-68.6 thousand) and Santa Catarina (-43 thousand). The reduction was seen in all major groups of economic activities, which showed negative balances, particularly in Services (-257.7 thousand) and Industry (-116.4 thousand).
