Paraíba has the best Liquidity Index in the Northeast and the 5th best in the country, reveals CLP ranking
Paraíba has been accumulating positive indicators in economic activity and fiscal management, according to surveys released by different institutions. Data from the Center for Public Leadership (CLP), published this Friday (5), show that the state has the best Liquidity Index among the nine states in Brazil’s Northeast region and the 5th best in the country. Paraíba moved up one position compared to last year.
According to the ranking, the five states with the best liquidity indices in the country are: Santa Catarina (5.5%), Goiás (5.8%), Paraná (6.9%), Rondônia (9.4%), and Paraíba (9.8%). The Liquidity Index indicates the relationship between financial obligations and the states’ gross cash balance. The lower the indicator, the better the financial situation, as it means the entity has fewer obligations relative to the cash available. Conversely, a higher indicator serves as a warning for the states’ financial health, pointing to a critical situation in which the cash balance is negative.
According to the CLP, the indicator assesses whether the entity has readily usable and non-earmarked resources to meet its short-term financial obligations. The higher the percentage, the greater the entity’s financial obligations in relation to cash, thus implying lower liquidity.
RESULT DEMONSTRATES FISCAL SOUNDNESS – The State Secretary of Finance (Sefaz-PB), Marialvo Laureano, celebrated another positive indicator for Paraíba in the CLP ranking, this time regarding the Liquidity Index, pointing to the state’s fiscal soundness. “This index demonstrates the maintenance of a balanced fiscal management and that our financial flow—that is, our reserves—remains well above the state’s debts. It also once again demonstrates the seriousness of our state government’s fiscal management, reflected in the results of surveys by several independent institutions, as well as, in practical terms, in the numerous public works and, above all, in our capacity to invest with our own resources,” he commented.
INVESTMENT CAPACITY – Marialvo noted that “more than just keeping accounts up to date, the state administration has reached a new level by creating investment capacity with its own resources, delivering structural projects in all regions of the state, such as roads, water pipelines, hospitals, schools, airports, and the Port of Cabedelo, as well as in the health sector, which has gained regional and even national prominence through its programs. In addition, we have accumulated positive indicators in job creation and retail activity. Currently, we have the lowest unemployment rate of the economically active population in the state across the entire historical series measured by IBGE over the past 13 years, along with highlights in retail surveys (3rd highest growth rate) and in Industrial GDP (3rd highest in the country). Over the past seven years, we have already created more than 1.3 million formal jobs,” he detailed.
POSITIVE OUTLOOK FOR 2026 – According to the State Secretary of Finance, with the maintenance of this fiscal balance and the state’s investment power using its own resources, the trend is for this positive scenario to continue.
“The year 2026 will also bring several challenges, but our expectation is that the economy will continue to grow and that we will be able to maintain these structural investments, generating jobs and income and implementing assistance programs for the most vulnerable people,” he stated.
