For the fourth consecutive year, Paraíba has been recognized by the Public Leadership Center (CLP) as the safest state in the North/Northeast, according to the State Competitiveness Ranking. This recognition is due to the fact that, among the 16 states in both regions, Paraíba has the highest number of indicators above average in the Public Security pillar. The ranking considers a range of factors, including Personal Security, Sexual Violence, Property Security, Unsentenced Prisoners, Unexplained Deaths, Quality of Crime Information, Criminal Justice System Performance, and Traffic Fatalities.

According to the CLP, the Public Security indicator holds the highest importance in the ranking due to its inclusion of crimes that most impact society and its use of the most reliable measurements, giving it significant weight.

Jean Nunes, Secretary of Public Security and Social Defense, highlighted Paraíba’s commitment and ongoing efforts to ensure public safety. “This recognition, for the fourth consecutive year as the safest state in the North and Northeast in the Competitiveness Ranking, is a direct reflection of the tireless work of the Government of the State of Paraíba and the result of a joint effort involving the Military Police, Civil Police, Military Fire Department, prison system management, and the overall performance of our justice system. Each indicator in which we exceed the average reflects a firm commitment to reducing violence and promoting the personal and property security of Paraíba’s residents. Furthermore, our strategy has always been evidence-based, focusing on the integration of security forces, continuous professional training, and intelligent use of technology in Integrated Command and Control Centers to prevent and combat crime. We have heavily invested in public security programs that not only enhance the efficiency of our operations but also prioritize the protection and well-being of the population,” he stated.

CLP - The Public Leadership Center (CLP), responsible for the ranking, is a nonpartisan organization dedicated to engaging society and developing public leaders to tackle Brazil’s most urgent challenges.
