In 2027, Paraíba is expected to post the highest Gross Domestic Product (GDP) growth among Northeastern states—an expansion of 1.9%—according to the September 2026 edition of Banco do Brasil’s Regional Review. Furthermore, the review indicates that the state is set to record the third-highest GDP growth nationwide, trailing only Roraima and Rio Grande do Sul (both at 2.1%).

According to the study, Paraíba’s economy is expected to grow at a rate exceeding the projections of 1% for the Northeast and 1.2% for Brazil as a whole.

The forecast also suggests that Paraíba—along with the states of Pernambuco, Rio Grande do Norte, Maranhão, and Ceará—will likely show more positive results, driven primarily by the services and industrial sectors.

Regarding the composition of the 2027 forecast for Paraíba, the services sector shows an estimated growth of 2.0%, while the industrial sector is expected to advance by 0.9%. Meanwhile, the agriculture and livestock sector is projected to grow by 7.4%, contributing to the state economy's overall performance.

The state's projected performance unfolds against a backdrop where Banco do Brasil highlights the importance of continued industrial investment, the expansion of logistics infrastructure, and production diversification for the Northeast. According to the analysis, these factors underpin relatively favorable prospects for the regional economy, with positive impacts on construction, services, and associated industrial supply chains. “This result is a source of pride for all the people of Paraíba. The projection by Banco do Brasil, which places Paraíba at the forefront of economic growth in the Northeast for 2027, shows that the state is on the right track. We have an economy that combines investments, infrastructure, services, industry, construction, and agriculture, creating an increasingly favorable environment for development,” highlighted Gilmar Martins, the Secretary of Planning, Budget, and Management.

Paraíba already stands out in 2026

The projection for 2027 reinforces a positive performance already evident in estimates for the current year. According to Banco do Brasil, Paraíba is expected to grow by 3.9% in 2026—the highest projected rate among Northeastern states.

The study indicates that, in Paraíba’s case, this expansion is driven by a combination of construction, services, and household consumption. The 3.9% projection places Paraíba ahead of Piauí (3.6%) and Alagoas (3.4%).

These figures therefore reinforce the outlook for a continuing economic growth cycle in Paraíba, characterized by diversified activities and significant contributions from the services, industrial, construction, and agricultural sectors.
