Paraíba showed improved high school performance in the 2025 Basic Education Development Index (Ideb), released this Wednesday (6). Although this stage remains one of the greatest challenges in Brazilian education, the state raised its score from 4.0 in 2023 to 4.4 in 2025.

This result represents a 0.4-point increase in just two years and places Paraíba among the states that have advanced in high school student performance.

Beyond this recent progress, the state also stands out in the indicator's historical data. Since the Ideb series began in 2005, Paraíba has seen a cumulative increase of 1.4 points, recording the third-largest improvement in the country during that period. Its performance trails only the states of Pará and Piauí.

The results reinforce the growth trajectory of education in Paraíba over the last two decades, even within a national context where high school education remains one of the stages struggling most to meet established targets.

For Ricardo Henriques, Executive Superintendent of the Unibanco Institute, the figures highlight the importance of continuity in public education policies. According to him, the progress recorded by certain states demonstrates the capacity to maintain education improvement strategies regardless of changes in government.
