Tourism generates R$ 100.9 million in Paraíba and maintains a growth trajectory
Tourism in Paraíba generated R$ 100.9 million in July 2026, marking a 2.3% increase compared to the same month last year. For the period from January to July, the sector also showed positive performance, with a 3.1% rise. These figures were released this Tuesday (13) by the Tourism Council of the Federation of Trade in Goods, Services, and Tourism of the State of São Paulo (Fecomercio-SP), based on data from the Brazilian Institute of Geography and Statistics (IBGE).
The results for Paraíba align with the growth trend seen in the Brazilian tourism sector as a whole. In July, national revenue reached R$ 25.5 billion—the highest figure ever recorded for that month in the historical series—representing a 2.6% increase compared to July 2025. Between January and July, the sector’s revenue hit R$ 168.8 billion, also a record for the period, reflecting a 3.4% growth over the first seven months of last year.
In Paraíba, the rise in revenue demonstrates the continued positive momentum of tourism activity in 2026, with results remaining consistent with the expansion observed nationwide. However, Fecomercio-SP notes that the pace of growth in Brazilian tourism has become more moderate in recent months, influenced by high credit costs and other factors that may limit spending on travel and leisure.
According to Ferdinando Lucena, president of the Paraíba Tourism Board (PBTur), these figures underscore the importance of tourism to the state’s economy and highlight the need to continue strategies aimed at promoting the destination. “Generating over R$ 100 million in a single month demonstrates the economic importance of tourism to Paraíba. The State Government has been working to boost the destination's visibility in domestic and international markets, strengthen partnerships, and create new business opportunities for the sector. The challenge lies in transforming this potential into an ever-growing flow of visitors, thereby stimulating job and income creation and distributing the benefits of tourism across the state's various regions,” states Ferdinando.
The data from Fecomércio-SP were gathered via the IBGE’s Annual Survey of Services and Monthly Survey of Services, and adjusted using the Extended National Consumer Price Index (IPCA). The figures account for activities directly linked to tourism and also incorporate employment data and information from industry associations to estimate the contribution of segments only partially involved in the sector.
